Local grain has started arriving

EARLY HARVEST REPORT

And so the waiting may be over…..

We are just seeing the start of our local harvest. First indications point to large yields of good quality grain although as expected proteins appear on the lower side of normal..

Prices are at levels not experienced for a long time which will be good for recovering dairy farmers. For grain growers lower prices will be offset by yields.

So what to do next?

Dairy farmers should look closely at their fodder test results over the next few weeks and carefully consider how they balance their grain mixes to match poorer quality fodder particularly now that hotter weather seems to be arriving. As new crop grains and proteins start to feed in to the system the economics of feeding will change significantly. Some dairy farmers have already  contracted  grains to fix part of their cost base against what seems to be an improving milk price sentiment for 2017.

In short we are in the time of year to reset everything and take stock so make sure you speak to a member of the Rex James team to discuss your individual situation.

In the meantime we, like you, will be pleased to see the back of 2016 and look forward to a more prosperous and optimistic dairy industry in 2017.

From the entire team at Rex James Stock Feed we thank you for your continuing business and wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
